Chef Leon Brunson
In 2018 we created a short form promotional film for Chef Leon Brunson with a micro crew and a small kitchen that was kindly provided to us by a local restaurant that he worked at. Fast forward to 2019 and Leon reached out to us once again to create an even better film with more resources and a new menu to showcase. The timing worked out perfectly because Mike Kozlenko, a highly talented DP from Austin, TX who is also a friend of Vy’s would be in town and available for work, and so the two got on the phone together and excitedly agreed to take on this project together. Having Mike on this production brought this project to another scale, challenging us to choose the best location, focus on set design, and create different “looks,” in camera to keep this food film fresh and innovative. We couldn’t have completed this production without all of the talented crew members and sous chefs involved in this 12+ hr shoot day. We delivered 8 films: one 60 second video, and seven 30 second cut downs. You can watch all of the 30-second sizzles by clicking on this link.

Production Food Cinematography
Both the Director and DP knew that the food cinematography had to be breathtaking. They collaborated closely with chef Leon Brunson in choosing dishes and techniques that lent itself to dynamic visual moments such as searing meat or infusing smoke into a s'mores container. Each of these cooking scenes ended with a top down look where the food would be plated. This required skillful placement of kitchen props and some food styling to make things look delicious.
